If the Apple stock split does succeed in putting splits back into vogue, these companies are most in need of one:

Priceline Group Inc. (Nasdaq: PCLN) - Share price: $1,232.43
The online travel company famous for its commercials with William Shatner actually did a 1-for-6 reverse stock split back in 2003 following the dot-com bust. That bad memory has probably been a factor holding PCLN back from doing a stock split. But at this point a 10-to-1 split would make perfect sense. Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. (NYSE: CMG) - Share price: $568.09
The Mexican restaurant chain has enjoyed a lot of growth and is a star player in the casual dining sector. It has never had a stock split. Management has frequently scoffed at the idea of a stock split, but that doesn't mean it won't happen. Until about a year ago, Apple said the same thing. Autozone Inc. (NYSE: AZO) - Share price: $533.84
AutoZone is a retailer and a U.S. distributor of automotive replacement parts and accessories. The company has had two 2-for-1 splits in its history, in 1992 and 1994, so it certainly is due. Netflix Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX) - Share price: $421.54
Growing from a by-mail DVD rental and subscription service into a full-blown Internet-based TV network has pushed NFLX to impressive heights. Netflix had one 2-for-1 split back in 2004. But the dramatic fall of the stock back in 2011 - from just over $300 to $50 - no doubt has kept the company from pulling the trigger on a stock split. The price will have to go even higher to convince management it's safe to split. Intuitive Surgical Inc. (Nasdaq: ISRG) - Share price: $373.90
Intuitive Surgical designs, manufactures, and markets its own da Vinci Surgical Systems and related instruments and accessories. As ISRG has pulled back from highs of about $575 a share over the past couple of years, a stock split for Intuitive would seem counterintuitive for now. Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq

Moreover,my guess is that the switch will be a wash for investors as funds and ETFs that track the S&P 500 will dump their positions in Advanced Micro Devices and SAIC Inc while those that track the S&P Mid Cap 400 will be obligated to take up positions in both. A quick look at the performance of the iShares S&P 500 Index ETF (NYSEARCA: IVV) verses the iShares Core S&P Mid Cap ETF (NYSEARCA: IJH) reveals the following:

Advisors' Opinion:

Vitamin Shoppe Inc (NYSE: VSI), Books-A-Million, Inc (NASDAQ: BAMM) and Perfumania Holdings, Inc (NASDAQ: PERF) have the dubious distinction of beingthe worst performing small capspecialty retail stocks for this year (according to Finviz.com) with losses of 4.85% and3% and a gain of 0.61%, respectively, since the start of the year (See my previous article: This Year Best Performing Small Cap Specialty Retail Stocks? UNTD, TA & HZO). I should mention that the definition of specialty retail stocks might vary from one stock screener to another, but what clear is that these three small cap retail stocks have been heading in the wrong direction for investors for much of this year. With that in mind, what sort of performance should investors expect from these small cap specialty retail stocks on Black Friday and for the all important holiday season? Here is what you need to be aware of:

Midcap video game retailer stock GameStop Corp (NYSE: GME), who potential peers may include small caps Books-A-Million, Inc (NASDAQ: BAMM) and Trans World Entertainment Corporation (NASDAQ: TWMC), is ranked as the sixth most shorted stock on the NYSE with short interest of 42.02% according to Highshortinterest.com. However, there good reason for the high short interest and many shorts and investors alike feel that GameStop Corp brick and mortar strategy to sell games is very old school as retail increasingly shifts online.

Advisors' Opinion:

Question: El Paso Pipeline Partners LP (NYSE: EPB): Buy, hold or sell?

Answer: I have El Paso Pipeline Partners rated a buy under 38. Management reaffirmed its $2.60 annualized distribution target, which implies no growth compared to 2013. But it will be maintained, and 2015 will be a better year.

Kinder Morgan’s corporate structure is convoluted.Kinder Morgan is the general partner, which reaps distributions from underlying businesses. It pays a 4.2% yield. Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, the main pipeline MLP enterprise, pays a 6.5% yield in the form of a cash distribution like most MLPs. Kinder Morgan Management(KMR) was created to pay distributions in shares given the tax-and-accounting headaches of MLPs. But KMR still offers tax deferrals. Following an acquisition, Kinder also controlsEl Paso Pipeline Partners(EPB), whose yield is 5.7%. Inphi (IPHI) provides high-speed analog and mixed signal semiconductor solutions for the communications, datacenter and computing markets. This stock closed up 4.7% at $13.25 in Monday's trading session.

    Monday's Volume: 838,000

    Three-Month Average Volume: 202,080

    Volume % Change: 378%

From a technical perspective, IPHI jumped higher here right above some near-term support at $12.44 with heavy upside volume. This stock has been uptrending strong for the last five months, with shares soaring higher from its low of $8.62 to its intraday high of $13.85. During that uptrend, shares of IPHI have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move briefly pushed shares of IPHI into breakout territory, since the stock flirted with some near-term overhead resistance at $13.50.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in IPHI as long as it's trending above some near-term support at $12.44 and then once it sustains a move or close above its new 52-week high at $13.85 with volume that hits near or above 202,080 shares. If we get that move soon, then IPHI will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that move are its next major overhead resistance levels at $14.79 to $16.94, or possibly even $18.

  • [By Garrett Cook]

Inphi (NASDAQ: IPHI) shares were also up, gaining 33.19 percent to $17.04 after the company announced its plans to acquire Cortina Systems.
